The Massachusetts Council of Churches is an ecumenical partnership of seventeen Orthodox and Protestant churches/denominations in the state, with approximately 1700 congregations

The Massachusetts Council of Churches Board of Directors voted unanimously on September 25, 2008 to urge Massachusetts Citizens to vote no on ballot Question #1 which would eliminate the state income tax.  Board members expressed deep concern that such a measure would slash state services to the most vulnerable and at-risk citizens.  Board members received cards from the Coalition of Our Communities affirming their commitment to vote not and were encouraged to share with their congregations why if this income tax proposal is passed will in fact lead to drastic cuts in services.
